Good knife
4 Stars
Good knife
Very sharp knife, quality build, and perfect size blade + handle. My only issue is if you snap it open quickly with one hand, the locking mechanism goes too far and you need to pry it back into position so it can be closed.

I LOVE THIS KNIFE! It's big, it's heavy, holds an edge and that's exactly what I wanted for an EDC. Do not be turned off by negative reviews or the "It sucks cuz it's made in China" crowd. This is a simple, well-built liner lock design and I couldn't be happier with the knife or the price.

This is a big and heavy knife, so be warned if you are wanting something small and light. Having said that it fits in my hand beautifully and my front pocket as well. The only issue I had out of the box was the screw holding the blade loosened way more than I cared for. But a drop of lock tight fixed that and after tightening it down pretty good, the blade worked itself to the perfect tension.

The knife doesn't use the latest greatest hardest steel on the market, but it holds an edge well. It is very sharp out of the box and I have cut just about everything with it from string to sheet rock. As a matter of fact, since it's last sharpening I did a little sheet rock cutting during a recent move since my tools weren't at the new house yet and I didn't have access to a razor knife. Since then I've opened boxes, cut cardboard, and trimmed loose threads with ease. It's not as sharp as I'd like at the moment, but what do you expect after cutting sheet rock!

If you aren't sure because of the Chinese stamp but are in the market for a new folder on a budget, BUY THIS KNIFE! You won't be disappointed.

First Impressions:

I just received the knife yesterday and let me say I am impressed! At this price point I was expecting a lightweight, fragile backup I could put away in my truck for emergencies. I have carried the Mule from Ka-Bar for years...until I lost it and was looking for something of the same weight and quality. I think I've found it for less than half the price of the Mule!

pros:
~ The Gila has a nice weight (in my opinion, I like a knife with a little weight that I can feel).
~ The blade does not have any wriggle what so ever and feels sturdy.
~ The belt clip is sturdy and strong which should allow it to remain secure when clipped to my pocket.
~ The handle is comfortable in my hand.
~ The slim design (compared to the Mule) allows it to not protrude from my pocket making it look bulky.
~ The blade is sharp right out of the box! I was able to shave cleanly with it and it passed the paper test with flying colors!

Cons: (not really a "Con" it just takes practice)
~ the thumb hole take a little practice for one handed operation...I was able to do it after about 5 try's (not a big deal)

Overall...I am impressed with this knife and look forward to seeing what it can handle. Don't be fooled (like I have been in the past) with the price, this knife is worth more than the $16 it is listed for!!!

I'll tell you, I was pleasantly surprised when I received this knife. It was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be. The blade is nearly 4" and the handle is probably close to 5". It has a great heft to it, I'll try to upload a picture of it in my hand. The nice thing is how smooth its action is. I can flick it out forward or downward/reverse without using my finger. Just a nice flick of the wrist with some practice will snap it out. If it came sharper I would have given it a five, but it is clear the steel quality is very low, so I don't expect too much at sub-$20. I put some time on it with a ceramic stone and stropped it and it has been holding its edge nicely now. I use it as an everyday pocket knife for all my utility needs, and it is plenty sharp to cut those little threads on my wife's silk dress, while being hefty enough to cut oranges from my tree. It would actually make a very nice self-defense knife as well, should you be faced with a life threatening situation and you have been trained to use a knife, I would feel comfortable whipping this out.

This knife is good quality for only $15. The first thing you should know about this knife is that it is quite large, it will almost assuredly be bigger than what you think from looking at the picture. Whether it is too big to be an every day carry knife depends on the person. I personally was looking for a larger folder and this one was a good size. The knife used to be made with aluminum handle scales, but people didn't like the added weight so Ka-Bar switched the handle material to G-10. Despite its large size, there is no blade play and the liner lock is secure. The blade opens and closes smoothly; I can do both with one hand as easily as with a similar medium sized knife.
The blade is a nice thickness and size, so you wouldn't mind using it for a lot of tougher tasks. It comes as sharp as any other good quality knife. Overall it has a good feel just like other Ka-Bar blades and although I haven't used it much yet, my guess is that it could take a beating and remain a solid knife.

I wanted to upgrade my hiking knife. I have had one for about 30 years now, and it still works well, but its main drawback is that it take two hands to open and close it. I wanted a knife that can sit in my pack for ages without rusting up, is capable of heavy-duty work in emergencies, can take a lanyard, can be used with just one hand, and is cheap enough that I won't worry too much if it gets lost or stolen. The Ka-Bar Gila meets all of these requirements. It is easy to open and close single-handed. It has a lanyard hole to attach it to my pack so I can't drop it off the mountain. The blade is large (3 7/8" long and 0.14" thick) and locks solidly with no free play. It is stainless steel, and comes out of the box with a shaving edge. To top it off, it comes at a ridiculously low price!

It's an okay beater knife. It's hefty and easy to sharpen. A little overpriced due to having the Ka-bar name on it. But because it's kind of crap you don't mind mistreating it. I've been in situations where I have needed a knife but would not have wanted to use one of my better ones for fear of damaging it.

Excelente calidad y precio
