BORN + BASED IN THE USA

SOG STRONG. SOG, short for MACV-SOG, is a U.S. tool and knife company founded in 1986 and named in honor of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observations Group, a spec ops outfit that valued quick, quiet solutions.

SOG SUPPORT. Our knives and tools are built to last, and we always stand ready to assist you when needed.

U.S. DESIGN + QUALITY CONTROL

SOG STEEL. Your SOG Trident assisted opening is crafted in hardcased black titanium nitride-coated AUS-8 stainless steel and hardened using our cryogenic heat treatment; the steel is lowered to -300°F then brought to room temp to relieve blade stress at the atomic level, thereby increasing edge retention and hardness.

SOG SHAPE + SERRATION. The Trident features a partially serrated blade for quick, clean edge cuts and a clip-point design that brings the point closer to the knife’s center line for more balanced piercing-style cuts.

Product Description

Product Description

Try the Trident once and you’ll never carry that other brand’s blade again. That’s our challenge to you. Give it a push on either Thumbstud and the 3.75” blade jumps from the handle as if coiled and ready to strike. That’s thanks to SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), a system of opposing high-tension coils that propels the blade open instantly once you give it a flick.

From the Manufacturer

The SOG Trident uses our well-proven means of delivering a knife blade to the open position with the new SOG Assisted Technology. Now using our patent pending Arc-Actuator, the Trident locks stronger and releases easier. There is also a built-in safety to lock the blade closed. What also makes the Trident so unique is the patent pending Groove in the handle to cut paracord, fishing line, etc. without having to open the blade. The handle also includes a Digi-Grip variable pattern for coarser grip in areas that require it. Our bayonet style clip is easily switched for right and left hand carry or removed for pouch storage.

SOG Trident - Used To Be An Excellent Knife for the Money
The SOG Trident is an excellent knife with good edge retention and a worthy handle. The only cons to this blade are actually in the clip and the gimmicky ‘rope/string cutter.’ The slot, as other reviewers have noted, is absolutely worthless since it’s just the knife blade exposed through a gap in the handle. The clip is rather stiff and extends above the knife handle, which makes it harder to draw from a pocket. Even with those caveats in mind, this knife is still an excellent buy!I’ve carried this knife for about six months every day, and have used it to cut cardboard, carve wood, and cut anything else that I need. I’ve even used it for throwing practice (not recommended in general, but I knew that going into it), and the only thing I’ve noticed as a result of that is a little loosening in the clip. This knife has handled an extraordinary amount of abuse and it continues to perform (and cut) very well. Not all folders will do that, so I wanted to give it appropriate credit. Note that the lock-back mechanism is not foolproof and will allow the blade to fold if the back of the blade is hit too hard, so don’t do one of those spine hit tests that some people do on their folders. ;)Would have given this knife five stars for sheer durability, overall performance, etc; but the clip design and the useless cutter in the handle warrant the removal of one star.** UPDATE **The price used to be between $40 and $50. I wouldn't recommend this knife again given the significant price increase to $70+.

I previously owned an early production SOG Trident, which for some reason I never really warmed to, it had a few issues. However, I recently bought this one with the Tiger Stripe finish, and it's abundantly clear that SOG has listened to the forum criticisms and done some significant quality control enhancements! The new production Tridents are absolutely first rate. All of the best features are retained: it's extremely light, has a great blade shape, outstanding pocket clip, great ergonomics, a large lanyard hole, and comes out of the box RAZOR sharp. The Tiger Stripe coloration looks AWESOME, you'll love it. The lockup wiggle that many people complained about (including me on my early model) has been eliminated, it feels rock solid and is easily adjusted. Deployment is lightning fast and extremely reliable, and stays that way even if the knife is muddy, dusty, or covered in oil (I've had it in all of those situations, and it continued to perform flawlessly.) The blade is outstanding; SOG's AUS-8 steel has a great heat treatment that makes it perform on par with more exotic steels. In terms of rust resistance, it is pretty good, the TINI Coating helps but I haven't had any issues as long as you rinse it after extended salt exposure (which is frequent for me). There are some features that are much maligned on this knife by many, but that I love, especially if you consider the requirements and environments for which this knife was designed! A lot of people don't like the fact that there are no full steel liners. I spend a lot of time on boats and in salt water environments, often in tropical locations in Central and South America as well as the Pacific Islands. This makes the lack of steel liners actually a plus; the strength of the Zytel handles is more than adequate, and provides insulation from cold as well as electrical shock when or if you have to cut wires (again, as a maritime or military user, these things matter.) The lack of liners also makes this knife exceptionally easy to maintain. While not a flow through design, there are no places for water to "hide" and form rust. Just rinse the knife out, blow it out with compressed air or leave it in the sun, slap a bit of oil in the pivot area and you're good to go, no disassembly needed. Next, the notorious line cutter. Most find it superfluous; I love it! First off, they've made a subtle change that makes it far more effective than early models. On my early production Trident, the groove has straight sides. This means that you have to cut at EXACTLY a right angle, making it marginally effective at best. On the newer models, the base of the groove is angled, so that when you put something in it it will "gather" the material into the blade, making it a VERY effective line cutter. It's not as good as a dedicated line cutter, but it works much better in practice than many reviews would like you to think. It's nice in situations where you don't want to flip out the blade (rubber boats, climbing, wearing heavy gloves on a fishing boat, in crowds etc.) And it will cut through pretty tough materials; I've used the groove cutter on zip ties, electrical wiring, plastic tubing, webbing, and others. Take care, it will dull that portion of of the blade over time, but honestly I don't use it too much so it hasn't upped the regular sharpening schedule of this knife for me. Anyways, in summary, I'd highly recommend this knife, it's light, fast, very good looking, and effective for almost any role.

Purchased the SOG TF1-CP Trident as a replacement daily carry for a cheap no-name knife I've had for years. Wow, the SOG is beyond expectation.

The knife fits wonderfully in the hand, making you feel secure using it for cutting anything. The blade came extremely sharp which is great. Plenty of friends have gotten knives that required a trip to the local sharpener upon arrival but that certainly isn't the case here. The hardware is all solid and it feels great.

I'm very happy with the belt clip on the SOG. It lets the knife sit low in my pocket where most can't even tell you have it. It just looks like a pen clip to anyone that might notice. I've even walked into several large events where I've been patted down and made it through security haven forgotten I was carrying it. When wearing it day to day, I've totally forgotten it is there as the knife doesn't have much bulk to it.

The assisted open feature is awesome. I love being able to quickly open the blade with almost no effort. The locking feature prevents the knife from opening when you don't want and I'm happy to have it. Keeps it from opening in your pocket and reaching in to find a nasty surprise. Unlocking the blade when it is extended is simple too.

Only thing I'm not big on is the string or belt cutter. I could do without it but it isn't a big deal.

Overall I'm really happy with this knife. It's very well made, light weight yet with enough weight to it that it feels tough and ready for any job. It is simple to use and super sharp. It looks good and feels good. A tool that I'll be able to use for years and years. Highly recommend the SOG TF1-CP Trident.

If your looking for a durable, reliable, military tested knife- this is for you. Let's set something straight though- yes, this is a folding knife and yes it does fit in your pocket but I'm reading these reviews and I'm hearing people bitch about it being too bulky and it not fitting in there pocket. THIS IS A MILITARY TACTICAL KNIFE and is currently used by many military units and military sub contractors: it has a parachute chord cutter that incorporates the main blade in its closed position (really handy when fishing and opening boxes). Personally, this knife feels great in my pocket and have had no problems of snagging, or any problems for that matter- maybe if you wear those skin tight jeans then I could see it being a problem.

The durability is amazing- this is my third one and all of them are as solid and smooth as if they came out of the box yesterday. The finish still looks brand new. I have put my knives through hell (Iraq, Afghanistan) and they're still perfect. It's very, VERY sharp!

The handle is lengthy for a few reasons: like I said before, this is a military knife so if you were under distress and somebody was going to cause you bodily harm you could perform a stabbing thrust and not loose grip of the handle, and not have to worry about your hand slipping on the blade. The second reason is the length is meant for the operator to be able to grip the knife comfortably....naturally if you will. Almost like your hand was meant to hold the knife.

The action is absolutely flawless. It truly is an amazing feel when opening this bad boy- and the SAT locking mechanism is incredible. When this knife locks open, there is no closing it until the operator closes it.

This is an amazing knife and is worth every penny. It's also a great pocket knife but beware- if your looking for a slim, small concealable knife this is not for you.
