A practical fashion statement; spring assist stopped working within a week
Considering I only paid 2.50 out of pocket for this knife thanks to gift cards from Microsoft rewards points, I'm not really complaining too much. The knife looks nice, has a bottle opener and screwdriver, and the blade is acceptably sharp. Not much more to ask for from a 10-15 dollar knife manufactured by Master Cutlery.Sadly, as I experience from all knives at this price range, the spring assist failed within a few days of use. I had to tighten the pivot screw a few times as it began to visibly rotate and loosen after what felt like 10-20 consecutive deployments at a time, and eventually I heard a little metallic sound from the knife and it stopped opening all the way on its own. Guessing the spring broke without falling out. It's still usable as a manual knife at least, just needs a wrist-flick when deployed with the lever now.As for ergonomics, I should mention I'm a southpaw. I find this knife comfortable to use with either hand but it feels more comfortable in my left hand, as my thumb can rest above the clip or on the indent at the top of the handle. The lever was a bit stiff for my right index finger out of the box, forcing me to use my middle finger for right-handed deployment if I wanted to avoid hurting my fingertip. This was not a problem for my left hand, strangely enough. Probably a skill/strength issue. Regardless, there's no risk of this thing deploying in your pocket or during a specious wrist-flick test from a cop, so that's a plus. The blade steel is cheap but typical for the price range, It's easy to sharpen and it won't rust easily - just don't expect it to hold an edge with moderate use. Additionally, you'll have to keep the screws tight if you fidget with this knife a lot, but odds are you aren't looking for a super durable EDC at this price range anyways. If you are, consider investing in a knife with higher quality steel. It'll be expensive and probably won't look as flashy, but it's worth your money if you want performance and longevity.Overall, I'm a bit disappointed the spring assist failed so soon, but I'm not really surprised - in my experience that's just how it goes with this tier of pocket knives. The appeal at this price range is aesthetics and practical features, but the disappointment still stands. I considered requesting a replacement, but I'll hold off so long as the locking mechanism doesn't fail within the return window. Seems that might be a possibility going by what other reviewers have said. Either way, it's still a pretty knife, just a manual now.

The design is flawless, it is worth the purchase if you are looking for something legal, sturdy, sharp, handy for work, etc.
The only thing is that I wish it provided us with more options in styles/colors, specifically solid colors with no print, but I understand why the print is on some of them, very cool blade and I am pleased with my purchase.

I bought this knife around 5 years ago, exact same price as it is now, and it was the best knife I ever bought. I used it almost every day cutting things like zip ties, wires, just about anything you'd need to cut when working on a car. The knife had kept an amazing blade and only being sharpened a couple times throughout the 5 years, it's still extremely sharp. As seen in the picture, the original knife has some paint damage compared to the brand new ones, and besides for the spring breaking while I had it apart to clean it, no other damage had occurred to this knife. You can't get a better knife for $10 or even under $20. Best made in China knife I've ever owned.

Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2013
This is my 2nd Tac Force TF-705GY , knife. I had the previous knife for a little more than a year.
The first knife came very sharp and held a great edge, I only had to sharpen about once every two months and I used it quite often for a variety of uses.
I replaced it because the assisted opening became weak.

The only thing I really don't like about the knife is the glass-breaker, so far its poked holes in two pairs of shorts where I have it clipped in an upper or side pocket. The glass breaker is a bit sharp and also pokes me in the leg when sitting. I was going to grind it off and never got to it. The new knife glass-breaker is not as sharp. You can also use the glass-breaker on phillips head screws and flat blade head screws if in a tight spot.

The new knife opening mechanism is a bit stiff, I need to oil it and hopefully with some use it will function as well as the last one. The new knife did not come as sharp as the last, and took a little work to get a good edge on. It's possible they may have used a different batch of steel, most likely they are using salvaged steel to save on cost and there can be considerable differences in the quality of the steel if so.

Regardless, this is an excellent utility knife. The serration on both knives is very sharp, the original stayed very sharp over the course of a year. The open groove in the blade is good for pulling small nails or for securing to a long stick, along with the other open areas on the knife if you happen to carry paracord on you.

The bottle opener works great but the knife must be open to do so, so be careful when using.

I've never had a problem with screws coming loose.

I have had it open a couple of times in my pocket, fortunately the point when clipped faces downwards so you should not catch your hand on it, but when removing it could catch in your clothes and cut them or you if not careful. My Gerber Skeleton on the other hand clipped with the point up, and occasionally it would be slightly open and get my hand, so I prefer the Tac Force from this standpoint.

The blade is very simple and quick to deploy by using the index finger to pull back slightly on the recessed rear tang of blade when closed. My friend ordered one and was using his thumb to flip the blade himself until I showed him how to properly open it, using the thumb is a great way to find out how sharp the serrations are.

I've seen some folks comment they could not figure out how to close, when opened the rear tang of the blade is locked by a spring loaded bar. If holding with the right hand you just need to press in with your thumb on the bar at the same time pressing down slightly on the non-sharpened upper edge of the blade and the blade will release and begin to close. The deployment tang will keep the blade from closing on your thumb, overall the opening and closing of the blade is a smooth, simple, one handed operation. This appears to be a better knife for a right-handed person, but I'm sure a lefty could operate just as easily.

The knife looks great and my 2nd came in a very nice box, which quickly went into a very nice garbage can. The 1st came in a small plastic bag which was fine. The knife has a little bit of weight to it and a solid feel, it constructed of all metal.

Overall I'm very happy with it, it has a great look and for the cost I don't mind replacing every year or so. I'll probably order a few more for gifts, they come in a variety of colors which is also nice, though I personally prefer the drab grey model.

The cheese knife I was using just wasn't cutting it...literally and figuratively. This is a beautiful, well-made knife. For an amateur knife buff like me, I had a little difficulty figuring how to close it for the first time, but it closes and stays closed when activated. Bonus..the bottle opener works great, so I can have a beer while I am opening my new treasures. A great item for a great price.
