EOTech VUDU 4-12x36: An ACOG-Sized Scope With a Mil Reticle

October 29, 2026

The short version: EOTech's VUDU 4-12x36 fits a variable 4-12x scope into a body a bit shorter and lighter than Trijicon's TA11 ACOG, and trades the ACOG's load-specific BDC for a mil-based reticle that works with any rifle and ammo.

Keith Finch's hands-on look for Athlon Outdoors treats the VUDU as EOTech's answer to a simple question: what if the fixed-power ACOG could also do a precision scope's job? Set at 4x, the specs line up closely with the TA11: 7.1 inches long versus 8, 16.9 ounces versus 17.6, and nearly the same field of view. It also takes ACOG Gen2 "Mini" mounts, so there are no rings to level and existing mount hardware may carry over.

The MR5 reticle keeps the familiar put-the-circle-on-it sight picture but measures everything in mils: a 4-mil circle, a 0.2-mil center dot and a holdover tree marked in half-mil steps. A BDC is calibrated to one rifle and load; mils aren't, so a quick ballistic-app check gives you holds for whatever you're shooting. A more conventional MD5 crosshair is also offered.

Finch says the modest 3x zoom ratio was the smartest call, because the reticle stays readable at both 4x and 12x instead of trying to be two reticles like a high-ratio LPVO. The full range takes a quarter turn of the dial, and an EOTech EFlx red dot can ride on top for 1x work. His verdict is clearly favorable, with a turret tracking test still to come.
