Howa Kuiu Vias Rifle:
The Howa Kuiu rifle line is offered in 41 model variations, priced from $782 to $811, built on short, long and magnum actions in eleven chamberings running from 204 Ruger to .338 Win. Mag. Barrel lengths are 20-, 22- or 24-inches, depending upon chambering. All feature Kuiu Vias or Verde camo finished Hogue pillar-bedded synthetic stocks and Cerakote Tactical Gray finish on the barrels and action. The Vias camo pattern is darker and more compatible with wooded backgrounds, with its predominant colors being black, dark gray and dark cream, while the Kuiu Verde digital camo pattern is reminiscent of Gore’s western camo pattern, albeit with out the orange highlights, with the predominant colors being gray, light brown and cream. Our contest rifle is the 6.5 Creedmoor ($811) in Kuiu Vias camo, with a 20-inch, No. 1 contour barrel and a 4+1 round capacity. It is built on Howa’s venerable 1500 barreled action, which is unsurpassed among production bolt-action rifles. Starline Brass:
We’ve loading Starline Brass for more years than we can count, and have never had a “bummer” case in all those years. Until recently, Starline only loaded straight-walled cases where the neck did not need to be annealed, but all that has change. Starline is now cranking out annealed-neck rifle brass so fast we can’t keep up with the new announcements, one of which is the 6.5 Creedmoor with either large or small primer pockets (winners choice). The 6.5 Creedmoor, originally developed by Hornady, is probably the most efficient medium-game cartridge known to man. If we could have only one centerfire rifle, we’d be hard pressed not to choose a 6.5 Creedmoor. Starline supplies OEM new brass to a number of cartridge manufacturers with their own proprietary headstamp. The 1,000 pieces of 6.5 Creedmoor brass retail to $510. Hodgdon 4350 Powder:
Hodgdon’s 4350 propellant is one of the best choices for reloading the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge. It offers velocities of 3,224 f.p.s. with a 95-grain Hornady V-Max bullet to 2,694 f.p.s. with a Sierra 142-grain hollow-point boat tail. But best of all it offers outstanding accuracy across that entire range of bullet weights. Other propellants may offer higher velocities, but none provide the consistent precision of H4350. It’s our go-to propellant for the 6.5 Creedmoor. The two 1-pound containers of H4350 retail for $53.98. Contact Hodgdon Powder, Dept. OT; Tel.: (913) 362-9455; Web: www.hodgdon.com
