S&W Bodyguard 2.0 Packs 10+1 Rounds of .380 Into 9.8 Ounces

The short version: Smith & Wesson's Bodyguard 2.0 is a 9.8-ounce .380 ACP micro-compact holding 10+1 rounds, and Athlon Outdoors' reviewer came away calling it one of the best-balanced pocket pistols on the market.

The pistol is a polymer-frame striker gun with a 2.75-inch stainless barrel, and it ships with a flush 10-round magazine plus a 12-round magazine that adds less than half an inch. Most guns this small are blowback operated, but this one uses a Browning-style swinging-link locked breech, which the article credits for reduced recoil and better reliability. Sights are a U-notch rear and a tritium front. The test gun had no manual safety, though a version with one is offered, and there is no magazine disconnect.

The trigger measured 4.5 to 5 pounds on an RCBS gauge. The reviewer ran Winchester 95-grain PDX1, Black Hills 90-grain JHP and Hornady's 90-grain Critical Defense FTX without a single malfunction, averaging groups of 1.75 to 2.25 inches at 15 yards. He also drew from Galco and DeSantis pocket holsters and shot one-handed, finding recoil light with no slide bite, which he attributes to the beavertail. His take is that it feels like a miniature M&P.

He sees it as a backup gun for many owners and a primary carry gun for others when clothing or setting rules out something bigger. Its 10-round flush magazine also holds more than most micro-compacts.
