Description:
Details Speer® brought sport shooters and law enforcement the excellence of Lawman over 35 years ago. Back in 1968, the line included various calibers of centerfire handgun ammunition, and quickly earned a reputation as a high-performance and reliable product. Lawman is attractively priced, and the cases are reloadable with clean-burning propellants and reliable CCI primers to complete the package. Note that total metal jacket (TMJ) is essentially the same as full metal jacket (FMJ). Speer is usually reserved for self defense hollow point ammo. But today, we're going to take a look at Speer Lawman which is actually a full metal jacket round. Lawman ammo falls under the Speer brand because of its intended use as self defense training ammo. Speer Lawman loads are meant to match the velocity and recoil impulse of hotter self defense ammo like Speer Gold Dot. So you can practice with the Lawman ammo and load up the hollow points for self defense use. And then, count on the recoil and point of impact to be very similar. For this review, we tried a few rounds of Speer Lawman in 45 ACP. The 230 grain bullet is seeded in a reloadable brass case with a non-corrosive primer. Lawman bullets are lead core total metal jacket which means that the copper jacket completely encases the bullet leaving no exposed lead. This makes the Lawman ideal for use in indoor ranges where you want to keep lead levels to a minimum for health reasons. We've tested Lawman ammo in a few other calibers and immediately notice the increase recoil. But with this load, it was barely noticeable. I don't doubt that it matches the Gold Dot defensive loads, but the recoil seems relatively moderate in all six of our test guns. Reliability was not an issue, and we didn't have any feeding or ignition failure during the test. We used our full-size Springfield Armory XDM to do an accuracy test from the bench at 15 yards. Results were pretty respectable with a nice group right in the center with one low flyer. If you want to train with full power loads but don't want to pay the price for premium defensive ammo, then pick up a few boxes of Speer Lawman.
